The FDA-approved PrEP pill (Truvada) functions by preventing HIV transmission.

PrEP is recommended for people in a relationship with an HIV positive partner, people who engage in high-risk sexual behaviors, or people who share needles.

PrEP must be taken daily.

PrEP is a way for HIV-negative people who are at risk for contracting HIV to prevent infection.

PrEP is not known to have any serious side effects.

Are you at risk for HIV?

PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) is a pill that is taken once a day to keep HIV-negative people who are at-risk for HIV infection from becoming infected. The PrEP pill, Truvada, is safe, FDA-approved, and has few reported side effects.

PrEP reduces the risk of HIV infection from sex by over 90% and from injected drug use by 70%. You can use PrEP alongside condoms and other protective measures.

PrEP is ideal for people who are in a relationship with an HIV-positive partner, engage frequently in risky sexual activities (such as unprotected sex with multiple partners), or use injected drugs.

PrEP can also help protect pregnant mothers and their babies from HIV infection and should be considered by women with an HIV-positive partner who are thinking about getting pregnant.

Our PrEP clinic, run by AIDS Resource Alliance, is the first of its kind in the area and is free to residents of our community. Our patients have the benefit of case managers to assist them through the process and financial aspects of accessing PrEP.

We also offer on-site HIV and STI testing. A nurse is available to answer your questions between visits.
